Course Overview

Course Title: Dermal Filler Injection Techniques and Safety for Pharmacists

Target Audience: Licensed Pharmacists

Duration: a 2-day intensive course

Objective: Equip pharmacists with the necessary theoretical and practical skills for safe and effective Dermal Filler injections.

Introduction to Dermal Fillers (2 hours)

    • Background and History of Dermal Fillers
    • Dermal Fillers as a therapeutic and aesthetic tool
    • Regulatory aspects of Dermal Filler

Dermal Filler Materials and Mechanism of Action (2 hours)

    • Overview of Dermal Filler materials (Hyaluronic Acid, Calcium Hydroxylapatite, etc.)
    • Mechanism of action
    • Therapeutic uses and aesthetic uses

Anatomy and Physiology (3 hours)

    • Detailed understanding of facial and neck anatomy
    • Importance of recognizing vascular and nerve structures

Patient Consultation and Evaluation (2 hours)

    • Identifying suitable candidates for Dermal Filler treatments
    • Assessing patients’ goals and managing expectations
    • Informed consent and documentation

Preparation and Storage of Dermal Fillers (1 hour)

    • Guidelines for Dermal Filler preparation and storage
    • Importance of sterility and handling precautions

Injection Techniques (3 hours)

    • Overview of injection techniques
    • Selecting the appropriate needle or cannula size and type
    • Determining the appropriate Dermal Filler volume

Hands-on Practice (4 hours)

    • Practice on medical mannequins

Assessment:

  • Written Exam: Multiple-choice questions based on the course content (1 hour)
  • Practical Exam: Supervised Dermal Filler injection procedure on a medical mannequin (30 minutes)

Prerequisites: Participants need to be licensed pharmacists and must present proof of valid licensure. Prior to the course, it is recommended that they review basic anatomy and physiology.
