Dear Alberta College of Pharmacy Council members and officers, I hope this message finds you well. I’d like to recommend spending some time familiarizing yourselves with the significant work conducted by Health Education England (HEE) in the past decade. The wealth of materials they have published provides in-depth insight into the UK’s recognition and regulation of cosmetic and aesthetic practices including pharmacists, which eventually led to the establishment of The Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP). As you may be aware, the field of pharmacy is consistently evolving, and innovative practices are continually emerging, particularly in the cosmetic and aesthetic sectors. In such a dynamic landscape, it is crucial for regulatory bodies, including ACP, to stay updated and adopt an informed, adaptive approach rather than prohibit an entire practice. The HEE’s collaborative approach with the JCCP is a prime example of this strategy. Their method demonstrates the value of gathering comprehensive information and collaborating with other regulatory bodies to ensure that we respond to these changes effectively and appropriately. Such a collaborative and informed approach ensures we maintain high standards of safety and quality while also embracing innovation. Let us consider this approach, which could serve as a model for dealing with evolving practices in our jurisdiction. This will enable us to regulate effectively while also supporting advancement and innovation in our field. Thank you and best regards.
